rideshare inspections
There are two aspects to getting approved as an Uber or Lyft driver – first, you must be approved as a driver, and second, your vehicle must be approved for the platform, which includes passing a vehicle inspection. Some of the requirements are generic, and others are state specific. One of the critical steps to being approved as a Rideshare driver in Michigan is to complete a vehicle inspection. Michigan law requires rideshare drivers with a vehicle 5 years or older to get an annual vehicle inspection. This is a requirement set by the state and enforced by both Lyft and Uber, to ensure the safety and comfort of every passenger.
The most common inspection required is a 19-point vehicle inspection. You can view the 20-point Lyft vehicle inspection form here. The 22-point Uber vehicle inspection form can be found here. Vehicle inspections must be renewed every year or every 50,000, whichever comes first. They are necessary for making sure the vehicle is safe for everyone who gets in it for a ride. You will also need an inspection if you are adding a new vehicle to your profile.
Both Uber and Lyft have a vehicle inspection form that you can print and bring with you. No printer???? Don't worry, we have already downloaded the forms and have them on hand. The mechanic/inspector will fill it out upon completion of your inspection. The form is very straight forward – every section is “pass” or “fail”, and has to be signed off by the inspector. The inspector will fill out other items on the form such as the date, your vehicle’s mileage, as well as the inspector’s ARD (Auto Repair Dealer) number.
Keep in mind that Lyft requires that you complete a new vehicle inspection every year, or every 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Call us to make your appointment today.
